Main duties of the job
We offer excellent opportunities for career development, with sizeable skin, head and neck and orthognathic practices, working closely with other hospital teams and MDTs. The department and Trust both offer a welcoming and dynamic working environment, with opportunities to participate in teaching medical students from the Hull York Medical School (HYMS). Research opportunities are encouraged.
Our inclusive nature has brought close working not only between neighbouring OMFS units but also within other specialities. We are a cohesive group with excellent support from SAS grades and are one of the first units to train OMFS Surgical care Practitioners. Close links with department management help smooth areas of decision making and streamline care.
The Maxillofacial department sits within the Head and Neck & Plastics Directorate which is part of the Surgical Care Group. It provides an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Service to York and the whole of North Yorkshire (a population of around 850,000). The Head and Neck Directorate consists of Maxillofacial Surgery, ENT, Orthodontics, Restorative Dentistry and Audiology and has its own dedicated Outpatient setting at York and Outpatient reception team. There is a very supportive managerial team and good administrative and secretarial support.
