Join to apply for the Social Worker role at City of York Council
York is a fantastic place to live and work. The city is steeped in rich culture & history, with charming character and lots of opportunities.
It is an exciting time to embark on a career in social work in York with a dynamic journey already underway, to develop the ways in which we work with individuals, to enable them to remain independent for as long as possible. Adult Social Care in the City of York has a clear vision, which lays out a newly developed practice framework, supporting high-quality practice by providing clear expectations within which a consistent approach can be applied. Our practice framework has been developed to support practitioners to use their professional judgement and curiosity, collating the tools, support and guidance practitioners require. We want to empower our staff with an ethos of being flexible and adaptable so we can work inclusively and creatively within our communities.
The Adult Social Care & Community Team (ASCCT) are recruiting for two experienced social workers (full time and part time available) with a passion to make a difference to the lives of people in York. ASCCT are a friendly and supportive service working with individuals with physical and cognitive disabilities from across the city. We are based in a beautiful grade II listed building in the centre of York opposite the train station, offering great transport links in and around the city.
Our office provides modern facilities including onsite subsidised café which is run by national charity United Response and wonderful views of the world-famous Roman City walls.
Strengths-based practice underpins what we do, and we're motivated by empowering people to find solutions that work for them, striving to listen and enable, rather than direct and prescribe. Our approach focuses on the positive attributes of a person's life and of neighbourhoods, recognising the capacity, skills, knowledge and potential that individuals and communities possess.
Within ASCCT there are a range of specialist areas that will provide you with different development opportunities. The main body of our work is assessment and support planning in our long-term team as well as a duty team dealing with urgent queries. We also oversee the front door function, to provide the first point of contact for those considering adult social care. Covering a range of social care aspects, there are many opportunities to become involved in, to further develop skills, knowledge and experience. Within this there are;
* Review workers – working through reviews using a strength-based approach
* Continuing Healthcare and Health Specialist social workers - focusing on CHC assessments, S117 hospital discharges and health funded pathways
* Carer specialist workers - completing carer assessments and working externally with our partner organisations
You will play an important role in shaping the social work model in our service and mentoring and supporting our ASYEs. We strongly believe in the development and progression of our team.
To apply you will need a degree in Social Work and be registered with Social Work England (SWE). Currently we are not licenced to sponsor employees for visas, therefore are unable to offer sponsorship for these roles.
Please note, we do not have a sponsorship licence to sponsor individuals for visas to work in the UK, therefore we are unable to offer sponsorship for this role.
This role is suitable as a job share opportunity.
As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1: Can express themselves fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.
Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
City of York Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all employees and volunteers to share this commitment. We require the successful candidate to undertake an enhanced Criminal Record check via the Disclosure and Barring Service.
The City of York Council is committed to supporting and rewarding you for your hard work so that you can enjoy life both in and outside of work. In addition to pay, pension and flexible working benefits, we have also secured a wide and ever-growing range of discounts and staff benefits. This includes gym memberships, travel permits, cycle to work schemes, adult education and many more local offers and discounts.
