Overview
We are looking for an experienced Pharmacy Technician to join our forward‑thinking emergency department. The role is to support the emergency department pharmacist and help maintain the highest standards of medicines management. Pharmacy Technicians are key to the success of our award‑winning service, ensuring patients receive timely, accurate medication and contributing to safe patient care from admission through to transfer to a main ward.
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee daily workload to ensure patients receive high‑level care and critical medications are prescribed and supplied in a timely manner.
* Maintain supplies of medicines, flag critical drugs, and arrange necessary supplies to avoid missed doses.
* Make interventions to prevent missed or delayed medicines, reconcile inpatient charts with GP records, and support the discharge process.
* Perform ward‑based medicines management duties including audit, controlled drug management, and compliance with Trust policies.
* Provide oversight and leadership of the dispensary during designated sessions and supervise workload for groups of wards.
* Participate in late‑night, bank‑holiday, and weekend rotas as required.
* Contribute to the use of electronic prescribing and medicines reconciliation activities following the implementation of the full Electronic Patient Record.
Qualifications & Experience
* Demonstrated clinical experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
* Well‑developed communication skills and the ability to lead and train others.
* Experience with ward‑based medicines management, audit, and controlled drug administration.
* Knowledge of Trust policies and compliance requirements.
* Familiarity with electronic patient record systems and medicines reconciliation tools is desirable.
