Associate Mechanical Engineer (Water Utilities) – London / Glasgow / Bristol / Derby / York | Permanent | Office/Home Hybrid Working
Join to apply for the Associate Mechanical Engineer (Water Utilities) role at COWI. This role focuses on the design environment and involves delivering engineering work related to water infrastructure design, including water supply and wastewater systems, pressurised mains, pumping stations, treatment works apparatus, and related equipment. The position is UK-based with day-to-day collaboration with colleagues across global hubs, and may offer opportunities to broaden contributions to other MEP areas or client-side/site-based roles in major infrastructure settings.
Responsibilities
* Contribute to the design of projects for a wide range of clients
* Plan design work and deliverables together with the wider MEP team
* Develop and provide technical assurance of design using relevant software
* Ensure compliance with local and international standards
* Coordinate multi-disciplinary aspects of projects
* Mentor junior team members in design
* Contribute to building relationships with clients and other stakeholders
Qualifications
* A degree in mechanical engineering or similar
* Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent)
* Relevant experience within mechanical systems design
* Ability to provide technically sound solutions independently and, when required, act as discipline lead
* Solid mechanical understanding of water-based systems (pressurised water supply mains, pumping stations, treatment works apparatus)
* Experience with hydraulic modelling of pipe networks, including steady state and transient analysis
* Knowledge of pipe support and stress calculations
* Exposure to other mechanical equipment (lifting equipment, actuated hydraulic gates, building services) would be advantageous
* Experience with 3D and BIM design
* Knowledge of Water Industry Specifications (WIMES)
* Experience applying CDM2015 regulations to design tasks
* Experience of design and build projects, which may include designer's representation on site
