Z/OS Systems Programmer Role
Job Description
The z/OS Systems Programmer should possess technical, domain-level, and specialist skills to ensure that all engineering services are operated, maintained, and constantly upgraded as technology advances.
There may be multiple functions within the role involving various products and technologies, including but not limited to programming, support for maintaining essential environmental conditions, and analysis—creating functional/technical design solutions. The job holder may specialize in one or more of these functions/technologies. Responsibilities include overseeing deployment, planning, configuration, and testing.
Key Skills
* Upgrading, maintaining, and supporting the z/OS operating system
* Upgrading, maintaining, and supporting ISV products, particularly from IBM and Computer Associates (CA)
* Production support
* Extensive experience in mainframe systems programming
* Knowledge of z/OS, SMP/E, TSO/ISPF, USS, SDSF, JCL
* Ability to work independently with IBM and CA products
* Excellent problem determination skills and team collaboration
* Providing off-hours support for software changes and participating in an on-call rota
* Setting and achieving challenging goals that exceed standards
* Strong written and spoken communication skills, capable of articulating complex information to diverse audiences
* Building effective networks across business areas based on mutual trust
* Experience in creating and deploying comprehensive business/operating plans
* Understanding of risk management and regulatory compliance
Additional skills (not essential):
* Assembler, Automation, GDPS, Rexx, and CLIST skills
* Proficiency in Top Secret security
* Performance monitoring using Omegamon, RMF, SMF, and SAS
