Hours: 30 Hours Per Week (Term Time)

Salary: Grade 3, £25,185 x 71.22%

Contract Type: Temporary (1 year in the first instance)

Start Date: as soon as possible

The Governing Body of Ss Gabriel and Raphael Catholic Primary School are seeking an enthusiastic Temporary Special Needs Support Assistant.

Ss Gabriel and Raphael RC Primary School is a welcoming Catholic school located in Tonypandy, serving the communities of Rhondda Fawr, Rhondda Fach, Tonyrefail and Gilfach Goch. We are an inclusive and friendly school with a diverse pupil population and a strong sense of community.

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Needs Support Assistant (SNSA) to work under the direction of the class teacher and senior support staff. The successful candidates will play a crucial role in supporting pupils with additional learning needs and ensuring they are fully included in all aspects of school life.

Main Duties

1. Build constructive, supportive relationships with pupils and respond appropriately to individual needs.
2. Promote inclusion, acceptance and independence, encouraging pupils to engage in activities led by the teacher.
3. Support pupils’ social, emotional, physical, hygiene and medical needs, including toileting and personal care where required.
4. Support learning by helping pupils access structured activities and targeted programmes as directed by teaching staff.
5. Help manage pupil behaviour and report concerns to teachers or senior support staff.
6. Support the use of ICT to enhance learning and help pupils develop independent skills.
7. Supervise pupils during transitions, breaks and lunchtimes.
8. Accompany children on school visits and offsite activities as required.
9. Follow all safeguarding, health and safety, data protection and confidentiality procedures.

Essential

10. Experience of working with or caring for children.
11. Understanding of child development and learning needs.
12. Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and adults.
13. Ability to work constructively as part of a team.
14. Basic use of ICT to support learning.
15. Willingness to undertake necessary training (e.g., first aid, personal care).
16. Commitment to safeguarding and equal opportunities.

Desirable

17. Knowledge of relevant school policies and Special needs strategies.
18. Understanding of the CFW and ALN Code in Wales
19. Welsh Language Level 1 (minimum)
