Overview

Specialty Doctor in Geriatric Medicine – University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust

The Older People\'s Services Department forms part of the Medical Care Group and supports 10 Older People\'s wards and a Day Hospital. The Trust provides inpatient and frailty services across Poole and Bournemouth sites, with a focus on rapid assessment and safe, timely discharge through a dedicated frailty pathway.


Responsibilities

* Work alongside existing specialty doctors and trainee Geriatric registrars to provide care to inpatients, including new admissions.
* Provide supervision and support of junior medical colleagues, Physicians Associates and Advanced Nurse Practitioners/Advanced Clinical Practitioners.
* Maintain continued professional development.
* Attend ward multidisciplinary meetings.
* Attend and contribute to educational sessions and Clinical Governance meetings.
* Partake in departmental Quality Improvement work.
* Teach Medical and Physicians Associates students.
* Participate in the hospital appraisal process as part of ongoing professional development.
* Potential weekend working within the ortho-geriatric service.


Qualifications and Training

* Eligibility or valid/relevant GMC Registration.
* Basic Medical Qualification.
* Completion of Foundation Training.
* Completion to IMT2 level and evidence of MRCP Part 1.
* Passed MRCP Part 1 and 2 where applicable.
* Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practice.


Experience and Skills

* Experience in Older People\'s Medicine or related field.
* Good communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
* Ability to prioritise workload and use initiative.
* Ability to know own limitations and when to seek help.
* Meet the requirements of the GMC Good Medical Practice.
* Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and engage with all staff groups.
* Excellent communication skills.


Other Information

We operate across the Trust with potential site moves as part of merger activity and new hospital developments. Recruiting Managers can answer site-move questions at interview. Excess mileage will not be reimbursed; travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute. Roles may relocate as part of planned moves.
