Companies House is an executive agency of the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) employing over 1,000 staff. We maintain the public register of companies for the UK and provide corporate transparency, making the public register available online, free of charge, allowing individuals and businesses to make effective decisions about engaging with a company. Currently there are more than four million companies on the register, and we incorporate around 700,000 new companies every year.

We are currently delivering an organisation wide transformation programme to become a truly digital organisation; with all our systems and services to be digital first, easy to use and developed entirely around our users� needs. Our Portfolio Analyst will play a critical part in delivering this transformation.
This is a great time to join Companies House. In October 2023, the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Bill (now Act) achieved Royal Assent, one of the most significant moments in Companies House�s history. The powers within the Act enable Companies House to play a much greater role in disrupting economic crime and preventing abuse of the register, while supporting economic growth and ease of doing business in the UK.
The role sits in the portfolio team, within the wider Transformation Delivery Directorate and requires close working with a range of colleagues from across Companies House. The role will involve producing high quality, timely reporting of the portfolio and transformation programme, managing risks and issues and managing the data within our PPM tool.
They will ensure clear understanding of what is in the delivery plan and the dependencies across the Portfolio, engage with colleagues to ensure consistent understanding and that one version of the truth is being utilised.

Job description
Our Portfolio Analyst will have the opportunity to:
Delivery and Leadership
1. Assist and support the Portfolio Manager and deputise when necessary.
2. Champion the use of best practice project, programme and portfolio management standards and processes.
Governance, Reporting and Assurance
3. Analyse and challenge portfolio and programme reporting data and escalate as required.
4. Monitor and control the baseline of key portfolio milestones.
5. Escalate milestone changes to the Head of Portfolio Delivery, Portfolio Manager and Programme Manager.
6. Working with the Head of Portfolio Delivery, Portfolio Manager and Programme Manager, provide accurate and timely data required to maintain the Portfolio Delivery Plan.
7. Provide reporting, including milestone look ahead and other reports, as required.
Guidance and Support
8. Work with our Project Management Office (PMO) to identify, develop and share best practice on project management processes, tools and templates, and benchmarks against industry standard.
9. Provide guidance and training to the project delivery community and other stakeholders on scheduling best practice.
Planning, Scheduling and Resourcing
10. Maintain, monitor and continuously improve the Portfolio Delivery Plan.
11. Recognise, record and track key portfolio dependencies.
12. Maintain PPM tooling to ensure one source of the truth is always accurate and utilised.
13. Provide SME support in scheduling to Project Managers.
14. Assuring the quality of project schedules and scheduling contents of business cases.
15. Setting and maintaining project schedule baselines.
Project Pipeline
16. Work with SROs and Project Managers to ensure that information on the project pipeline is accurate and up to date.
Risk and Opportunity Management
17. Help to maintain the Portfolio RAID log.
18. Identify portfolio risks (threats and opportunities) and raise as appropriate.
Stakeholder Management
19. Manage and engage with a wide range of internal stakeholders.
Person specification

20. Working in a PMO or project/portfolio management environment.
21. Proactively planning and prioritising work and managing multiple activities in order to meet deadlines.
22. Using Excel, Microsoft Project and PowerBI.
23. Planning, scheduling, finance and risk management in a project, programme or portfolio environment.
24. Working unsupervised and taking initiative.

Alongside your salary of �40,676, Companies House contributes �10,982 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.
Please note that the minimum salary does not reflect the 2023/24 pay deal and we are therefore expecting this to increase in the near future.
