The Role A welcoming secondary school in Stockton is looking for a compassionate and proactive Teaching Assistant to support students with visual impairments. This rewarding role involves working closely with pupils to ensure they can access learning, navigate the school environment confidently, and reach their full potential. You will collaborate with teachers, SEND staff and external specialists to adapt materials, support classroom participation and promote independence. Key Responsibilities Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with visual impairments. Adapt classroom resources to ensure accessibility. Support students in navigating the school environment safely. Encourage independence, confidence and engagement in lessons. Work closely with teaching staff to modify learning activities where necessary. Support the implementation of EHCP targets and specialist strategies. Liaise with the SENCO and external professionals where required. Ideal Candidate Experience supporting students with SEND, particularly visual impairment, is highly desirable. Patient, empathetic and committed to inclusive education. Ability to adapt learning materials and explain concepts clearly. Strong communication and teamwork skills. A background in education, care, support work, or youth work would be beneficial. Desirable (but not essential) Knowledge of assistive technologies for visually impaired learners. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position.
