Summary:
Thornapple Kellogg Schools is seeking a dynamic, student-centered instructional leader to serve as Assistant Principal. The Assistant Principal assists the Principal in fostering a positive, inclusive, and academically rigorous learning environment that supports the success of all students. This role supports student achievement, staff supervision, school operations, student discipline, attendance, and school culture. Thornapple Kellogg School District is part of the Kent Intermediate School District.
Qualifications:
1. Valid Michigan School Administrative Certificate (or eligibility to obtain)
2. Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience; administrative experience preferred
3. Demonstrated knowledge of Michigan’s State Standards, curriculum development, use of student achievement data, PBIS, MTSS, and school improvement processes to provide leadership that supports meeting the needs of all learners
4. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
5. Proven ability to build relationships with students, staff, families, and community stakeholders
6. Evidence of ability to consistently foster collaboration, competency, and continuous improvement
Job Responsibilities:
7. Support implementation of district initiatives and state standards
8. Support curriculum, instruction, assessment, and continuous school improvement efforts
9. Assist in maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive school environment for all students and staff
10. Address student discipline in a fair and consistent manner aligned with district policies
11. Supervise, evaluate, and support certified and support staff
12. Assist with student attendance, behavior, discipline, and restorative practices
13. Build collaborative teams and promote a culture of shared leadership
14. Support student activities, athletics, assemblies, and extracurricular programs
15. Work collaboratively with counseling, special education, intervention and student support teams
16. Provide leadership and facilitation of the Positive Behavior Intervention Systems of Support
17. Ensure compliance with district policies, state regulations, and legal requirements
18. Communicate effectively with families and community members
19. Build partnerships that enhance student opportunities and school programs
20. Represent the school positively within the community
21. Assist in organizing, planning and facilitating registrations, open houses, parent informational meetings and parent-teacher conferences
22. Other duties as assigned by the Principal
Contract –
207 work days
Salary competitive and commensurate with experience.
