Job Description
Assistant Quantity Surveyor / Quantity Surveyor
Major Infrastructure Project – HS2 (Calvert Green)
Salary up to £70,000 DOE | PAYE or Contract | Long-term opportunity
Looking to speak with Assistant Quantity Surveyors or Quantity Surveyors to join the commercial team on a major long-term HS2 infrastructure scheme based at Calvert Green (near Bicester).
This role is with a well-established, family-run Irish main contractor known for delivering complex civil engineering projects and, more importantly, for retaining its people. The team is settled, experienced, and supportive - the kind of environment where people genuinely enjoy coming to work and tend to stay long term.
The Opportunity:
You’ll be joining a well-structured project team on one of the UK’s largest infrastructure schemes, working closely with an experienced senior commercial team who are invested in mentoring, development, and progression.
The set-up offers a healthy mix of site and office time, sensible workloads, and a culture built on trust rather than micromanagement. Decisions are made quickly, the structure is clear, and the environment is professional without being overly corporate.
Key Responsibilities:
* Supporting the commercial management of a major HS2 infrastructure project
* Assisting with cost control, forecasting, and reporting
* Managing subcontractor accounts, valuations, and variations
* Working closely with site teams to ensure commercial best practice
* Gaining exposure to senior commercial leadership and long-term project delivery
What They’re Looking For:
* Experience working as an Assistant QS or Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering or infrastructure
* Comfortable working on site with some office-based time
* Someone practical, proactive, and able to work well within a close-knit team
* Open to candidates looking to step up or those already operating at QS level
What’s on Offer:
* Salary and package fully negotiable up to £70,000, depending on experience
* PAYE or self-employed/contract options available
* Mileage paid for travel
* Long-term, stable project with real continuity
* Supportive, people-first culture with genuine development opportunities
* Flexible role shaped around the right individual
This is a rare chance to join a properly settled project team on a flagship scheme, where you’re trusted to do your job and supported to progress.
