Job Description
The CNC vertical boring operator will produce machined parts by programming, setting-up, and operating CNC lathes, vertical milling and boring machines, traditional lathes, milling and boring machines in a safe, reliable and effective manner in our bearing workshop.
Responsibilities
* Determine the fixtures, attachments and tools necessary to complete jobs according to specifications and mount them safely on the machine prior to beginning cutting metal.
* Discuss project instruction and specifications with engineers and supervisors to guarantee consistency between plans and products.
* Modify machine speed, tooling and cutting style to ensure precision and accuracy of manufactured parts in a range of different ferrous and non‑ferrous materials.
* Ability to edit Fanuc type CNC programs.
* Oversee the cutting process, make adjustments throughout each job, catch mistakes as they happen and take necessary measures to eliminate errors.
* Supervise machine operating parameters (e.g. temperature and tool wear).
* Review and interpret cutting plans, send and receive programmes using the DNC link; identify and correct mistakes when necessary.
* Inspect all finished products for accuracy and uniformity to ensure product quality and uphold company reputation.
* Management of consumables such as lubricants, tips and drills.
Minimum Qualifications, Training and Experience Required
* NVQ Level 3 Certificate or equivalent in mechanical engineering or machining.
* Not less than 3 years hands‑on CNC milling and turning experience in a manufacturing workshop; experience with 4‑jaw chucks is a definite advantage.
* A comprehensive understanding of materials handling including cranes and slinging.
Key Skills
* Technical skills including manual and CNC machining (milling, boring and 4‑jaw chuck turning an advantage).
* A good knowledge of CNC software and hardware programming skills.
* Problem‑solving skills, particularly concerning the repair of worn parts where there is evidence of distortion, wear, ambiguous instructions or lack of clear information.
* Effective communication skills, especially record keeping.
* Must be able to get along with others, function as a team player and, when necessary, accept constructive criticism.
