We are seeking a dedicated and resilient 1:1 Teacher / Behaviour Support Tutor to join a supportive Secondary School in Blackpool, starting September 2025.
This is a critical full-time, temporary 1-year contract designed to provide intensive, individualised academic and behavioural support to a specific student who requires a tailored approach. We welcome applications from both qualified teachers and talented individuals with significant experience in behaviour management, youth work, or pastoral support who are looking to make a profound difference in a school environment.
The Role:
As the 1:1 Teacher / Behaviour Support Tutor, you will be primarily responsible for:
* Delivering highly individualized academic tuition across a range of subjects, adapting content and pace to the student's unique learning style and needs.
* Implementing effective behaviour management strategies tailored to the student, promoting self-regulation, positive choices, and constructive engagement in learning.
* Building a strong, trusting, and consistent relationship with the student, acting as a key mentor and positive role model.
* Creating a calm, structured, and predictable learning environment that minimises distractions and supports the student's emotional well-being.
* Monitoring and documenting student progress both academically and behaviourally, providing regular feedback to relevant school staff and parents/carers.
* Collaborating closely with the school's SENDCO, pastoral team, senior leadership, and external agencies to ensure a cohesive and holistic support plan.
* Adapting teaching and support methods in response to the student's evolving needs and progress.
* Maintaining accurate records related to attendance, behaviour, and academic achievement.
What We Are Looking For:
Essential (Qualified or Unqualified):
* A genuine passion for supporting young people who present with behavioural challenges.
* Significant experience in behaviour management, de-escalation techniques, and/or pastoral support with adolescents (e.g., in schools, youth work, residential care, therapeutic settings).
* Excellent communication, patience, resilience, and empathy, with a proven ability to build positive rapport.
* An understanding of the underlying causes of challenging behaviour and strategies to address them effectively.
* Ability to work independently, manage complex situations, and maintain professional boundaries.
* A robust commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
* Willingness to undertake an Enhanced DBS check (if not already held).
Desirable (but not essential):
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or other recognised teaching qualification.
* Experience in 1:1 tuition or working with students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs or SEND.
* Knowledge of the UK Secondary National Curriculum.
* Relevant training in behaviour management strategies (e.g., Team Teach, MAPA).
