This is an opportunity to take a leading senior role within the Children's Services Department Asset Management and Pupil Place Planning Team, supporting the development and delivery of the Department's capital programme.
Working in partnership with colleagues across the Council's Corporate Property Services Division, you will help identify, commission and lead a range of priority capital and condition projects, ensuring the effective maintenance and improvement of the Local Authority's Community and Voluntary Controlled school estate so that schools remain safe, functional and fit for purpose.
The role also plays a key part in supporting the Council's approach to pupil place planning. Working closely with colleagues in Information and Analysis and School Admissions, and engaging with a wide range of partners across the education sector, you will contribute to the development and delivery of strategies that ensure sufficient and appropriate school places are available to meet local need.
As part of this work, you will support and, where appropriate, lead on relevant statutory and regulatory processes associated with school organisation and changes to school land, drawing on specialist advice where required.
You will bring experience of developing and delivering capital or improvement projects, acting as a client or lead officer, and be able to demonstrate how you identify, prioritise and manage projects in the context of competing demands and constrained resources.
You may already have experience of working within an education or local authority setting, but we also welcome applicants with relevant transferable experience from other public sector or complex organisational environments. An understanding of, or the ability to quickly develop knowledge of, legislation and statutory processes relating to school place planning and school organisation will be important in the role.
You will be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively, supporting the Manager in the wider work of the team while also taking a leading role on individual projects. You will be able to demonstrate strong communication and negotiation skills and a practical, outcome-focused approach to working with internal colleagues and external stakeholders.
We welcome applications from candidates with a range of professional backgrounds who can demonstrate strong project leadership skills and an interest in contributing to the delivery of high-quality education infrastructure., This post is a designated customer facing role under the fluency duty and requires a specified level of spoken English as per the person specification.
