Purpose of the Post:
* Receive experience and support in the workplace to complete an apprenticeship and gain qualifications in the field.
* Provide an independent and risk-based internal audit service that offers assurance, advice and insight to improve governance, risk management, use of public resources and service performance across the Council.

Main Duties
* The main purpose of the service is to provide independent and risk-based internal audit to improve the governance, risk management, use of public resources and the performance of the Council's services.
* The Finance Apprentice – Internal Audit role is an exciting opportunity for a curious, organised and dedicated individual who is keen to develop a professional career in audit and public accountability.
* The main duties of the role will be to:
o Develop an understanding of internal control systems and Internal Audit standards.
o Assist with data analysis, evidence gathering and take part in practical audit work.
o Strengthen communication skills by engaging with officers and drawing up clear reports on findings.
o Observe and then contribute to less complex audits before moving on to more independent tasks.
o Collaborate with services across the Council to understand processes, risks and controls in different areas.
o Participate in technical training and continuing professional development to develop sound exploration skills.
o Receive mentoring from experienced auditors to build confidence and practical ability in the field.
o Follow the Council's policies on health and safety, equality, data protection and carbon reduction.
