Are you a confident Biomedical Scientist leader ready to make a real impact and jump into general management? We are seeking a Blood Sciences Manager to provide general management leadership and input into the pathology directorate. The primary role is to contract manage the delivery of pathology services from our third party partner, focusing on ensuring quality of service provision and securing demand management initiatives to achieve best value. The directorate is diverse, including the London bowel cancer screening hub, Cytology training hub, mortuary services, point of care testing, blood transfusion service, and the contract management of the pathology service to the Trust.
We are seeking a proactive, assured leader who can make sound decisions under pressure and work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels. Although leadership experience within blood sciences is highly desirable, a strong background in biomedical science will also provide a strong platform for success. The post holder will support the Clinical Director for Pathology, represent the service at divisional, Trust and network level meetings as required, and will be part of the Trust silver on-call rota.

Main duties of the job
* Responsible for the operational delivery, performance and governance for an agreed portfolio of clinical services.
* Proactively contract manage the service delivery and performance of outsourced pathology laboratory provider.
* Lead directorate teams to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of high quality patient-centred services, strategic planning, service development and change programmes, driving innovation, modernisation and high levels of staff and patient satisfaction.
* Responsible for the delivery of financial, quality, performance, productivity and workforce targets, local and national, as agreed through the business planning, appraisal and personal development processes.
* Responsible for establishing and maintaining internal controls to assure delivery of financial management and the deployment of resources in line with the Trust's financial plan and in accordance with the Trust's financial governance requirements. This will include delivering contracted activity levels and managing related pay and non-pay expenditure within agreed budgets, achieving required levels of cost improvement and underpinning service line profitability.
* Lead the development and delivery of the business plan to ensure continuous service improvement, quality and financial efficiency. Lead on specific divisional or cross-Trust projects as required.

Person Specification
Education & Qualifications
* Educated to degree level or equivalent qualification/experience in one or more pathology specialty
* Post graduate qualification or equivalent in pathology
* Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (FIBMS)
* HCPC Registration
Knowledge and Experience
* Significant experience leading a complex pathology service
* Significant NHS/public sector experience and knowledge, including up-to-date knowledge and understanding of NHS system reform
* Proven experience of effective performance and budgetary management and control, including achieving annual targets on a regular basis
* Proven success in business planning and in the development of business cases
* Experience of leadership of complex operational change/project management while also developing and maintaining high standards of quality
