Mechanical Project Engineer – Wastewater (UK wide)

In this role you will manage engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle – from concept and detailed design through to construction and commissioning – collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, JV partners and clients to achieve outstanding results.
* Deliver Mechanical Engineering Design Excellence – design of water and wastewater systems, including pumping stations, treatment plants, conveyance systems and associated infrastructure, from concept to completion.
* Innovate & add value – participate in value engineering, buildability, performance, reliability workshops, delivering sustainable and innovative design solutions.
* Equipment selection – specify pumps, blowers, screens, valves, chemical dosing plants and odour control systems.
* Project lifecycle involvement – develop feasibility studies, outline and detailed designs, and provide construction and commissioning support.
* Technical documentation – produce design layouts, technical specifications, datasheets and P&IDs for mechanical systems.
* Compliance & standards – ensure designs meet UK water industry standards, health & safety and environmental regulations.
* Constructability & commissioning – embed practical and commissioning requirements into designs from the outset.
* Solutions delivery – collaborate with civil, electrical and process engineers to deliver integrated solutions.
* Project management support or lead design management, scheduling, risk management, change control and financial forecasting.
* Site engagement – conduct site surveys and investigations, liaising with clients, contractors and suppliers to ensure practical and efficient solutions.
* Team collaboration – foster a culture of knowledge sharing, innovation, mentoring and professional growth within the mechanical discipline.
We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:
* Professional membership – working toward or holding chartered status (e.g., IMechE or equivalent), depending on experience.
* Progressive experience in the delivery of detailed design and Design & Build solutions for water, wastewater and bioresources projects.
* Technical knowledge – a sound understanding of mechanical engineering principles, project lifecycle management and mechanical equipment and systems used in water/wastewater treatment.
* Regulatory awareness – familiarity with UK water sector regulations, health & safety and environmental standards.
* Health & safety – robust understanding of current legislation and promotion of best practices.
* Design experience – proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD, Revit and BIM.
