The opportunity to make a significant difference to the delivery of Urgent and Emergency Care across Worcestershire is now available for an operational leader, with a values‑led compassionate leadership approach to support and enable our clinical divisions to deliver operational services across Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.
With a track record of delivery at a senior level in a complex environment, this a great opportunity for an individual with the drive, determination and resilience to deliver real and sustainable change who is ready to be responsible for the operational delivery of the Trust’s unplanned care approach, on behalf of the COO. The immediate priority of the role is UEC reset, which needs clear and direct leadership and management skills, together with current senior acute operational delivery experience.

Key responsibilities
* Leadership
* Work with Divisional Directors, Operations and Nursing Directors to provide visionary leadership, effective operational management and delivery of services.
* Ensure delivery of divisional objectives and support Directorate budgets and activity within contract.
* Provide assurance to the COO on operational performance and communicate Trust aims and objectives to all staff.
* Set strategic direction with the COO and Divisional teams, offering expert advice on strategic development and operational performance, delivering best‑practice solutions.
* Build credible relationships with stakeholders, empower senior clinical and managerial leaders to achieve national and local performance standards, and deputise for the COO across duties.
* Service Planning and Delivery
* Maintain an overview of service delivery, remove barriers to patient flow and implement agreed targets and objectives to deliver the Clinical Governance agenda.
* Use performance data to monitor and improve service efficiency and quality, and support the COO in service re‑configuration and improvement projects.
* Collaborate with system colleagues to improve Unplanned Care pathways and lead weekend planning for the Trust.
* Performance
* Deliver performance reporting to required standards (finance, activity, safety and quality) and take corrective action where necessary.
* Support Divisional Directors in reviewing clinical pathways, outcomes and patient experience, driving continuous improvement.
* Provide senior operational leadership for day‑to‑day site operation, represent site views in strategic discussions, and maintain visibility onsite.
* Work with Finance Managers to develop financial recovery plans and identify productivity opportunities.
* Support business case development and option appraisals to benefit the Trust.
* Act as Senior Responsible Officer for productivity and improvement programmes.
* Strategy
* Benchmark services and undertake research to ensure alignment with NHS and private sector standards.
* Promote governance activities and attend compulsory meetings for all staff.
* Support the COO in delivering patient safety, quality and clinical governance.
* Human Resources
* Support workforce planning, ensure staff participation, recruit key staff, and line‑manage the Clinical and Operational Site Delivery Team.
* General Duties
* Deputise for the COO, attend Trust Board sub‑committees and management meetings.
* Communicate own decisions widely across the Trust.
* Provide support and feedback in regular Divisional meetings.
* Implement local and national policy requirements.
* Develop relationships with commissioners and external partners.
* Maintain personal development and participate in the On‑Call rota.
