Background
Glasgow University Football Club was formed in 1877 and is one of the most competitive and successful University sports clubs. The club is a full member of the Scottish FA (SFA) and current SFA licenced club. Our first team currently compete in the West of Scotland Football League and partake in the Scottish Cup each year. Within the club there are five different squads who all compete in respective Saturday leagues (WOS senior football league, SAFA and SYFA) and Wednesday (BUCS) football.
The club has progressed hugely under the SFA Licensing requirements, and we have now created an established performance ethos and culture within the club philosophy and look to create a performance culture developed by our coaches for our players to ensure the best possible footballing experience for all.
Position Available
Our 3rd team will play in the Greater Glasgow Second Division & BUCS tier 4A for the 2025/2026 season, and we are looking to recruit a new coach to start in time for the start of our season in September 2025. They will be responsible for managing the 3rd team and for continuing the development of the club as a whole by working with coaches of the other 4 teams to develop players. As a University football club, we are different to most others in that we are governed by a student-run committee, with which coaches are expected to work closely in regard to their role as the overseer of the structural and performance enhancement of their respective squads.
The individual is expected to be able to deal with students and any issues that may arise due to the pressure of juggling full-time studies, part-time work and football, with a healthy degree of empathy and understanding. They are also expected to set and uphold high standards that match both the high ambitions of the club and the values held by the University, communicating this effectively throughout the club. This is a challenging but very rewarding role. It provides a wealth of coaching experience in both amateur and university football leagues.
There is a coaching grant available to cover reasonable expenses.
