Avalonia is an open-source UI framework that allows developers to create cross-platform applications using C# and XAML. With Avalonia, developers can build apps for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, and the Web from a single codebase. The framework is trusted by industry leaders such as JetBrains, GitHub, Unity, and Schneider Electric.
We're seeking an experienced Senior Technical Writer to lead the creation and maintenance of all documentation and educational materials for Avalonia. This is a pivotal role where you'll shape how developers worldwide learn to build cross-platform applications with our framework.
As our documentation lead, you'll transform complex technical concepts into clear, actionable guidance that empowers developers to succeed with Avalonia. You'll work closely with our engineering team to ensure our documentation stays current with rapid product development while building comprehensive learning resources for developers at all skill levels.
Key responsibilities:
* Own the complete documentation strategy and roadmap for Avalonia
* Create and maintain comprehensive API documentation, tutorials, and guides
* Develop onboarding materials that help new developers get productive quickly
* Establish documentation standards and processes that scale with our growing team
* Write clear, detailed technical documentation for complex UI framework concepts
* Create practical code examples and sample applications that demonstrate real-world usage
* Develop educational content including tutorials, best practices guides, and troubleshooting resources
* Collaborate with engineering teams to document new features and breaking changes
* Gather feedback from the developer community to identify documentation gaps
* Continuously improve content based on user needs and support ticket patterns
* Ensure documentation is accessible to developers with varying levels of XAML and .NET experience
* Work with developer relations to create content for conferences, blogs, and community events
Required qualifications:
* 5+ years of technical writing experience, preferably in developer tools or frameworks
* Strong hands-on experience with .NET development and the .NET ecosystem
* Proficiency with XAML and experience with at least one XAML-based framework (WPF, MAUI, Xamarin.Forms, UWP, or similar)
* Understanding of cross-platform development challenges and solutions
* Exceptional written communication skills with ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly
* Familiarity with documentation tools and workflows (Markdown, Git, Docusaurus)
* Strong collaborative skills for working with engineering teams
Preferred qualifications:
* Experience with multiple XAML frameworks and their unique characteristics
* Background in UI/UX design principles and modern application development patterns
* Familiarity with open-source development workflows and community engagement
* Knowledge of additional platforms and technologies (mobile development, desktop applications, web technologies)
