The Opportunities
We’re looking to receive expressions of interest for Engineers, Senior Engineers, and Principal Engineers to join our Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) discipline within the Intelligent Mobility team.
You’ll help design and deliver cutting‑edge ITS and operational technologies across highways, tunnels, and bridges—enhancing safety, efficiency, and sustainability. Our work spans the full lifecycle from early‑stage design and integration to construction support and independent engineering.
Projects include major UK infrastructure such as the Lower Thames Crossing, Silvertown Tunnel, and Smart Motorways, as well as international assignments that apply UK expertise globally. You’ll collaborate with specialists in systems engineering, communications, and traffic technology across Arup’s Highways, Energy and Digital practices.

We welcome interest from individuals at all levels of experience who bring
* Proven experience in design & integration: ITS, communications and control systems for transport infrastructure.
* Project delivery: Tender, preliminary and detailed design packages.
* Technical assurance: System validation and compliance with UK and international standards.
* Collaboration & client engagement: Multidisciplinary teamwork and stakeholder interaction.
* Business development: Supporting bids and proposals.
* Mentoring: Learning from others and supporting junior colleagues.
We’d love to hear from you if you have any of the following
* Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Systems or Communications Engineering (or equivalent).
* Experience in ITS design, integration or consultancy.
* Understanding of operational technology (e.g. communications networks, control systems).
* Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills.
* Membership of a relevant professional institution and commitment to development.
This role does not meet the criteria for visa sponsorship under the UK immigration system. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
