Senior Clinical Fellow – Paediatric Critical Care

We are looking for highly qualified doctors who wish to gain further experience, skills escalation, career progression and higher qualifications. The post is not a Deanery training post but offers the same on‑site training opportunities as other ST3+ doctors. The successful applicant will receive an educational supervisor to mentor them.
Responsibilities
- Develop and refine procedural skills in paediatric critical care, including endotracheal intubation, invasive venous and arterial line insertion, chest drains, and other essential procedures.
- Participate in the general paediatrics teaching programme and in‑house PCC educational activities.
- Collaborate with two advanced nurse practitioners (ANPs) on research activities, simulation, and educational projects.
- Contribute to national ongoing research projects and run in‑house and regional vascular ultrasound, NIV, and HDU courses.
- Engage in high‑fidelity simulation activities using SIM mannequins.
- Work closely with the Paediatric Respiratory team, Paediatric LTV team, and complex care teams.
- Comply with GMC regulations, Trust policies, and Standing Orders, and complete Trust general and local induction.
- Work effectively within the clinical team under supervision, supporting junior medical staff and managing departmental resources for efficiency.
- Ensure clinical governance requirements are met and participate in medical audit and research.
- Take duty responsibilities for other staff as required.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- MBBS or equivalent
- Full GMC registration
- APLS / EPALS provider status
- MRCPCH examination
- ALS / ATLS / ETLS certification
- Level 3 safeguarding course
- Paediatric Critical Care fellowship in the local country
- Academic awards / distinctions
- Extracurricular achievements
Clinical Experience
- Experience at ST3 Paediatrics and above level
- Experience of Level 3 NICU
- Work experience in PICU
- Experience of Level 3 NICU as a registrar
- 6 months or more work experience in Anaesthesia, Adult ICU, or Paediatric Emergency medicine
Skills
- Ability to work as a team member; triage and cope under pressure.
- Effective communication with patients, senior medical staff, and other health professionals.
- Basic airway skills for neonates and children.
- Basic knowledge of NIV and invasive ventilation.
- Neonate and paediatric endotracheal intubation.
- US‑guided invasive line insertion.
- Chest drains, CRRT and PD expertise.
- Simulation experience.
- Awareness of clinical governance importance.
- Experience with clinical audits / research.
