Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced mental health nurse, occupational therapist or social worker to join the York and Selby Early Intervention in Psychosis team as a senior practitioner. You will be joining a high performing, committed and supportive team working with people aged 14-65 who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis. Our senior practitioners manage a caseload of up 20 delivering psychologically informed interventions and case management alongside a multidisciplinary team including psychiatrists, psychologists, family therapist, CBT therapists, clinical specialists and occupational therapists. You will also support the assessment and duty function of the team. We cover a large geographical area including Selby, Tadcaster, Helmsley, Kirkbymoorside, the centre of York and surrounding areas. There is a requirement to be able to independently travel the locality.

Nursing candidates must have 18 months post qualifying experience including sign off of appropriate preceptorship or competency framework at the time of applying.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for your own caseload including care planning, safety planning and delivering psychologically informed interventions, which will include working with families and carers. EIP teams across the Trust offer a comprehensive package of training to all clinicians to enable you to deliver the highest standard of care. You will also be trained to carry out specialist assessments for people with a first episode psychosis. Support and supervision is built into the working week and you will have access to clinical, managerial and caseload supervision as well as more specialist offers such as a reflecting teams space supported by our dedicated family therapist.

You will have a full induction into the role alongside regular appraisal and development reviews. We have an extensive in house training package that you can access as well as development opportunities within this highly specialist field of mental health care.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

1. Current professional registration with an approved professional body
2. Evidence of continued professional development
3. For registered nurses: MIP, FLIP, ENB 998 Teaching & Assessing in Clinical Practice or City & Guilds 730 Teaching in Adult Education. Must be achieved within agreed timescale.
4. 18 months post qualifying experience including sign off of appropriate preceptorship or competency framework
5. Recognised sign off mentor, clinical educator or equivalent (willing to achieve)
6. Key skills in literacy, numeracy and ITQ level 2 or equivalent

Desirable

7. Leadership or management qualification
8. Post-graduate qualification in a relevant area

Experience

Essential

9. Significant experience working with people with mental ill health in a care environment
10. Working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers
11. Providing clinical supervision to individuals or groups as professionally appropriate
12. Mentoring or facilitating students on practice placement
13. Working in a multi-disciplinary team
14. Quality improvement activities

15. Leadership or management experience
16. Significant experience working with people with mental ill health in a community environment
