About The Role
Hippo is a rapidly growing digital consultancy passionate about building and delivering transformative digital solutions for a diverse range of public and private sector clients. We are recruiting for an intermediate consultant in UX design to support our mission.
Your Role in a Nutshell
* Work with colleagues and client SMEs to define user and business problems, guide collaborative ideation and follow an iterative, evidence‑based design cycle.
* Create wireframes, prototypes, and high‑fidelity designs that solve specific user problems.
* Use and contribute to design systems to ensure consistency and quality across digital products.
* Participate in user research sessions and translate findings into design iterations.
* Facilitate design workshops and crits to gather feedback and align the team on the best creative direction.
* Collaborate with developers to ensure designs are clearly communicated and meet user needs when built.
* Ensure all designs meet accessibility standards (WCAG) and are inclusive by default.
Essential Experience
* Experience in UX/UI design within an Agile delivery environment.
* Proficiency with design tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD.
* A strong portfolio demonstrating your design process, from problem definition, through initial sketches and testing to finished products.
* Understanding of user‑centered design (UCD) principles and how to apply them.
Desirable Experience
* Experience working on public sector projects or following GDS Service Standards.
* Basic knowledge of front‑end technologies (HTML/CSS) for high‑fidelity code prototyping and to better collaborate with engineering teams.
* Experience contributing to an internal community of practice or external meet‑ups/communities by sharing design trends and knowledge.
* T‑shaped experience of other professions (e.g. user research, UX writing, service design).

Hippo Locations
Headquartered in Leeds with offices across the UK in Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, London and Bristol. Candidates should be located within reasonable travelling distance from one of our offices. Depending on client needs, you may be required to work on‑site at a Hippo office or an in/out‑of‑town client location for a number of days per week. Candidates must be open to travel and working on one of those sites at least 2 days per week. We offer a generous relocation support package of up to £8,000.
