Job Title: Senior Mechanical Projects Engineer

The Opportunity
A growing engineering business within the rail sector is seeking a Senior Rolling Stock / Projects Engineer to lead the delivery of design, re-engineering and modification projects across passenger and freight rolling stock.
This is a senior appointment with the opportunity to lead and develop a small team (2–3 engineers) while working closely with customers, installation teams and wider project stakeholders.
The role offers strong Chartership support, career progression and involvement in technically interesting rail projects.
Role Overview
* Lead and co-ordinate rolling stock engineering design and modification projects
* Manage day-to-day delivery of a small design team, including workload allocation and output quality
* Develop innovative mechanical design solutions for rolling stock refurbishment and re-engineering
* Interface with customers, contractors and internal stakeholders
* Support installation teams and resolve design issues during site activities
* Carry out vehicle surveys to support concept and detailed design
* Prepare engineering change documentation and technical assessments (structures, fire, EMC etc.)
* Ensure projects deliver against time, cost and quality targets
* Lead project reviews and contribute to stakeholder meetings
Essential Requirements
* Mechanical Engineering degree (or similar)
* Proven rolling stock / rail industry experience from a mechanical engineering or design background
* Experience delivering design or project engineering work within passenger or freight rail
* Ability to lead projects and support or manage engineers
* Full right to work in the UK (no sponsorship available)
Desirable Experience
* Structural or integrity engineering knowledge
* Passenger rolling stock interiors experience
* Experience supporting installations / First in Class activities
* Chartered status (or working towards)
* Professional membership (IMechE, IET or similar)
