Overview

Location: Aaron Court Nursing Home, 190 Princes Road

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Care Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential support to Residents in our Residential Home. Your primary focus will be on enhancing the quality of life for our Residents by assisting with daily activities and ensuring their comfort and well-being. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and a genuine passion for helping others.


Skills, Knowledge and Qualifications

Required

* Genuine interest in working within a caring environment
* Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
* Team player
* Willingness to participate in Vocational Training Programmes
* Satisfactory Police Check and check against the POVA List (where applicable)

Desired

* Relevant Vocational Qualification (achieved / working towards)
* Experience of working with the relevant Client group


Main Responsibilities

* Maintain the highest possible levels of care by supporting/assisting People in our Care with washing, toileting, dressing, undressing, and other daily living activities.
* Assist People in all aspects of their care needs (physical, emotional and spiritual) while preserving comfort and dignity.
* Assist People with limited mobility or physical/learning difficulties, using aids provided.
* Monitor People who may be confused or have behavioural issues.
* Promote continence and assist in the delivery of care for People who are dying or have progressive illness; assist with last offices where applicable.
* Observe care planning needs and complete written daily records in line with Company policies.
* Support social activities by engaging with People and helping them continue hobbies and activities in the Care Home.
* Answer Nursecall system, answer the door/telephone, pass on messages promptly.
* Under supervision, report on the wellbeing of People and carry out regular checks as determined by senior staff.
* Welcome Visitors and provide refreshments/assistance as required.
* Make and change beds; keep rooms clean and tidy; manage waste in line with disposal policy; use resources appropriately.
* Clean and maintain equipment used by People/Relatives (e.g., wheelchairs, hearing aids, spectacles); maintain a clean and tidy Care Home per company standards.
* Care for People’s clothing and rooms as named; ensure clothing is recorded and clearly marked where applicable.
* Maintain full privacy and dignity for dying and bereaved, in line with policies.
* Assist during meal times, considering swallowing difficulties and dietary requirements; help serve food/drinks, set/clear tables and trays, wash up as required.
* Escort People to and from the Care Home for outings or appointments.
* Practice maximum integrity in all dealings with People’s personal and financial affairs.
* Assist, as needed, in rearranging bedrooms with safe moving and handling practices.


Communication

* Participate in staff and client meetings as required.


Training and Development

* Maintain professional knowledge and competence.
* Attend mandatory training days/courses, on or off site, as required.
* Participate in relevant N/SVQ training to achieve required qualifications.


Health and Safety

* Report any illness of an infectious nature or accident involving a person in care, a colleague, yourself, or another.
* Understand and implement the Care Home’s Health and Safety policy and emergency procedures.
* Report faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or hazards to the Home Manager or Handyperson.
* Promote safe working practices; ensure confidentiality; notify any inability to report for duty with minimal notice; maintain security of the Care Home; adhere to company policies and procedures; ensure equipment is clean and well maintained.
* Carry out other tasks as reasonably assigned.
