Job Description
Responsible for providing leadership, effective management, and strategic direction to the school, ensuring the school's affairs benefit pupils and the community it serves. Lead and manage the development, implementation, and evaluation of whole school policy. Oversee and develop the school curriculum, learning, and teaching provisions to promote improved educational outcomes.
The post holder must demonstrate a commitment to quality service delivery through continuous improvement for the benefit of the service and the organization.

Please note that the grade for this position may be subject to change. Promoted teaching posts that meet the criteria will be resized annually, in line with the SNCT Handbook. Any grade change will be effective from 1st August each year.
Holding the Standard for Headship became a prerequisite for teachers taking up their first permanent headteacher post at local authority and grant-aided schools in Scotland from 1 August 2020, under Section 28 of the Education (Scotland) Act 2016.
There are two exemptions: the first applies to any permanent headteacher appointed to a school on or before 1 August 2020; the second allows education authorities or managers of grant-aided schools to appoint a person who has not attained the Standard for Headship on a temporary basis for up to 23 months after 1 August 2020.

Requirements
This position involves regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate must join or update their PVG Scheme membership, and provide the necessary checks. Candidates who have spent over 3 months outside the UK in the last 5 years will require an Overseas Criminal Record Check. Employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of these checks.
Salary will be in accordance with SNCT agreements. Applicants must be or be eligible for full registration with GTC Scotland. If qualified outside Scotland, please review the GTCS FAQs on registration.
