Organisation: London-based local authority
Duration: 3-6 months with possible extensions thereafter

Hourly Rate: £60-65 per hour (Umbrella)
Venn Group’s specialist public sector legal team is recruiting on behalf of a London-based Local Authority that requires an Interim Principal Litigation Lawyer to lead and guide the litigation department.
The role is initially offered for 3 months, with a high likelihood of extension up to 6 months, and potential subsequent extensions. The position involves leading the litigation department, which includes Civil, Criminal, and Employment lawyers.
The ideal candidate will be a qualified Barrister, Solicitor, or Legal Executive (CILEx) with significant experience managing a litigation department within Local Government, which is essential for this role.
Key Duties include:
1. Handle complex litigation and regulatory law matters: Lead high-stakes litigation cases and regulatory issues, managing legal risks and ensuring outcomes align with council objectives.
2. Lead the council’s defence preparation: Coordinate defence strategies, gather evidence, and prepare legal documents for robust legal representation.
3. Advise members and senior management on governance: Provide strategic legal advice to ensure decisions meet legal standards and best practices.
4. Participate in licensing committees: Offer legal support to ensure compliance with regulations and fair decision-making.
While the council prefers candidates with expertise in all these areas, applicants who do not meet all criteria are encouraged to apply.
