The Role Holmes and Hills Solicitors is a large and growing regional law firm with its heart in East Anglia. From seven offices across Essex and Suffolk - including the 14,000 sq ft A12 Commercial Hub at J25 of the A12 - our 180 legal industry professionals work in partnership with clients to provide truly proactive legal services through personal relationships. Acting as a trusted advisor to individuals, businesses and local authorities, the solicitors and support staff at Holmes & Hills take the time to understand clients’ objectives before delivering practical advice through a personal and accessible approach. To assist the Private Client team in identifying the matters where tax returns are required, maintaining a central register of those cases, overseeing the collating of information, timely submission of returns and payment of tax. You will be a fee earner within the Private Client team who will time record on ongoing cases. You will have an annual fees target. Estates On occasions where required and the deceased did not have own accountants or those accountants are no longer retained, completing the tax return up to date of death. Completing formal tax returns on taxable estates Assisting lawyers with doing informal HMRC reporting where that is appropriate On complex matters assisting with the production of estate accounts Making CHT calculations and submitting returns Giving ad hoc advice relating to tax issues in the administration and whether estates are likely to registerable. Trusts Completing tax returns where required Making 10-year anniversary calculations and submitting return. Working with the Trusts team to ensure that anniversary dates are correctly identified and noted WHAT EXPERIENCE DO I NEED? 3-5 Years Tax Accounting experience ATT/ CTA Qualification Experience using relevant HMRC software Ability to draft and submit income tax returns Experience of preparation of estate accounts WHAT SKILLS SHOULD I HAVE? Must possess the ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels Must be able to impart key information in a manner which is easily understood Self-motivated, organised with the ability to prioritise and manage own workload.
