This is not a “hands-off” management role.
You’ll still be writing embedded C, reviewing architecture, and getting close to the hardware - while leading a growing team delivering flight-critical software for advanced uncrewed aircraft systems.
You’ll join a fast-scaling UK aerospace SME that designs, builds and manufactures its platforms entirely in-house. Software, avionics, flight controls and hardware engineering all sit under one roof. That means decisions are fast, ownership is real, and what you build doesn’t sit in simulation - it flies and you see that!
You’ll lead an embedded software team responsible for autopilot and aircraft systems software across multiple live programmes and internal roadmap development.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Line managing engineers from Graduate to Principal level
* Setting technical direction and ensuring engineering standards are upheld
* Contributing directly to embedded software design and implementation (C, real-time systems)
* Reviewing code, documentation and architecture
* Supporting project scoping and delivery planning
* Coaching engineers and building capability within the team
This is ideal if you enjoy leading from the front - not from a spreadsheet.
What You’ll Bring
* Significant experience in embedded software on complex systems
* Strong knowledge of C and real-time embedded development
* Experience mentoring or leading engineers
* Comfortable working in safety‑critical or high‑reliability environments
* Exposure to flight control software, Ardupilot, or DO-178C is advantageous
* Eligible for UK Security Clearance
