Job overview Hascombe Children’s Ward have opportunities for Band 5 Paediatric Nurses to join our friendly team! Hascombe Ward is a 23 bedded ward and paediatric assessment/ambulatory unit. We care for children and young people under many different specialities including general paediatrics/medicine, ENT, maxillo-facial, ophthalmology, general surgery and orthopaedics. We are a designated level 2 Paediatric Oncology Shared Care Unit (POSCU) providing shared care to children and young people from the surrounding area. The ward is supported by a range of nurse specialists including oncology, mental health, learning disability, epilepsy, diabetes, and we have a dedicated paediatric practice development nurse. We are looking for Band 5 staff nurses, both experienced and newly qualified, to join our friendly and supportive team. The trust runs a robust 12 month preceptorship programme for newly qualified nurses, our team on the ward will support you through this, enabling you to consolidate your skills. Experienced nurses can look forward to working in a caring and supportive team looking after a diverse variety of patients which will enhance your skills, and enable you to gain new ones. There are frequent opportunities for learning both on site and externally and the team are keen to support your ongoing development. Maintain clinical skills, acquiring new skills as they become part of the role. Advocate for your patient. Communicate effectively with children, young people, families and colleagues with in the multi-disciplinary team. Maintain up to date documentation in line with the NMC and trust policies. Respect privacy, dignity, religious and cultural beliefs. Up hold the trusts commitment to equality and diversity. Managerial: Ensure a safe approach to care is given in line with the NMC Code of Conduct and the trust policies and procedures. Ensure a safe and clean environment is maintained. Report any untoward incidents to the Nurse in Charge. Complete Datix forms as required by the trust guidelines. Promote good working relationships and communication between your colleagues, other members of the multi-disciplinary and children and their families. Be able to use the computer systems implemented by the trust. Deputise for the Senior Sister and take charge of the ward if required to do so, with in the competence of your practice. Ensure those you are supervising are maintaining high levels of patient care. Undertake specific roles and responsibilities as requested by the Senior Sister Education: Keep up to date with evidence based practice. Be responsible for your own training needs including statutory and mandatory training required by the trust. Participate in the orientation and training of new staff. Participate in in-house training Have a working knowledge of all equipment used. Provide support and education to all learners attending the ward, within the scope of your practice. Professional: To be familiar with and adhere to the standards for nursing care set by NMC Code of Conduct and the trust. Maintain confidentiality. Maintain the Duty of Candour – give relevant information to children and their families/carers Allow children (where appropriate), young people and their families to actively participate in their care. Be aware of safeguarding needs and how to access and implement the appropriate resources. To act as practice supervisor/practice assessor and participate in teaching of nursing students, healthcare assistants and other learners. Set a good example of expected professional behaviour and conduct. Preceptorship: Newly qualified band 5 nurses must complete the trust Preceptorship programme as per the trust policy Special Responsibilities: To abide by the NMC Code of Conduct for Nurses and ensure safe practice.
