Successful applicants will be expected to be able to manage a cohort of patients with consultant supervision, show organisational skills and leadership amongst other doctors on their base ward, contribute to unselected medical take, and participate in the cardiac arrest team.

These posts are available from 5th August 2026 to 3rd August 2027 and are based at Forth Valley Royal Hospital.

NHS Forth Valley provides acute services for a population of 310,000 people in Central Scotland. Forth Valley Royal Hospital is one of the most modern and well equipped hospitals in the country. It is situated in Larbert with excellent road and rail links to Stirling, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee.

Doctors who have previously joined this Clinical Development Fellow (CDF) programme have advanced their careers through a range of developmental opportunities. Previous CDFs have undertaken leadership roles in NHS Forth Valley such as chief resident; progressed through MRCP(UK); improved clinical efficacy through quality improvement work, presented both locally and nationally; established or contributed to undergraduate teaching programmes; and gained experience with the Scottish Centre for Simulation and Clinical Human Factors. Many progress into training programmes at the end of their CDF year.

The CDF programme was created to supplement the existing trainees to support safe clinical care as well as facilitating training opportunities for all. Trainees in the CDF programme will maintain skills in unselected medical receiving while providing excellent continuity for their base teams. Though most clinical time is spent during day time, banding supplement is awarded for evenings, nights and weekends.

Whatever your choice of sub-specialty or development projects, you will become part of a Consultant-led team with appropriate supervision for your development work.
