Job summary

An exciting opportunity to work as a Health Care Assistant in our evolving Medical Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) area has become available. Chesterfield's Medical SDEC has recently relocated within the Trust to a new and renovated area. You will be working with a great team who are dedicated to the patients who attend the unit.

Job description and responsibilities

The post holder will assist qualified nursing staff with the provision of individualised nursing care. You will support the nursing team in the achievement of ward objectives and provide support to relatives/carers.

Person Specification

Qualifications & training

* Grade 4/GCSE D or above (or equivalent) in Maths & English
* QCF level 2 Clinical Healthcare Support or willing to work towards and complete within 12 months or relevant experience
* Care Certificate (or willing to work towards)

Desirable

* Health Related Training, First Aid, Moving & Handling, Food Handling
* NVQ care qualification

Experience

* Understands the need for confidentiality
* Understands & committed to a caring approach to patients, relatives/carers
* Experience or working in an acute medical setting for above 1 year

Desirable

* Experience working in a surgical/Medicine/emergency care setting
* Experience in a NHS/health care setting

Skills & knowledge

* Able to demonstrate a caring approach to patients & relatives and to maintain patients’ dignity & respect at all times
* Able to communicate routine information including observations effectively verbally & in writing to staff, patients/relatives
* Able to prioritise own workload
* Able to work under own initiative within boundaries of role
* Demonstrates awareness of importance of working as part of a team
* Competent in venepuncture and cannulation

Desirable

* Basic nursing skills
* Basic understanding of nursing practice & code of conduct
* The 6C\'s
* NHS Constitution

* Able to work & cope with rotating shift patterns (early, late, over 7 days of the week)
