Overview
Medical Laboratory Assistants in Specimen Reception provide support to Blood Sciences and other departments in Pathology. Duties include entering patient data into the laboratory IT system, assisting with the handling of most specimen types, assistance with some analytical processes, and general clerical work.
You will be required to participate in a 24/7 laboratory rota, including late shifts (16:00 – 20:00).
Responsibilities
* Enter patient data into the Pathology IT system.
* Assist with daily maintenance of laboratory equipment and with the maintenance of laboratory archive systems.
* Perform general housekeeping tasks related to the laboratory.
* Assist with handling of specimens and support in some analytical processes as directed.
* Be able to lift heavy objects (e.g., boxes and waste) and push trolleys.
* Contribute to a reliable, accurate, and courteous service with good customer care and communication skills.
* Maintain high standards of numeracy and literacy; ensure accurate data entry.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Conscientious and capable of careful and accurate work with excellent customer care and communication skills.
* Good and accurate data entry skills with basic numeracy and literacy.
* Previous laboratory experience may be advantageous but is not essential.
