Project Overview
The University of Southampton in collaboration with Gham Power and Swanbarton has secured a short‑term project to develop the Soluble Lead Flow Battery for installation at Gahme Power in Nepal.
Role Overview
We are seeking to appoint a fixed‑term 4‑month research fellow to facilitate and deliver a programme of research testing aerogel thermal barrier materials within proxy and actual battery environments.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct engineering research and testing of aerogel thermal barrier materials in battery environments.
* Develop and execute experimental protocols and data analysis.
* Collaborate closely with the Energy Technology Research Group and project partners.
* Prepare reports, technical papers, and presentations.
Qualifications
* Mechanical engineer with a PhD degree or currently submitting a PhD thesis (submission by September 2026).
* Evidence‑supported experience of testing materials.
* Knowledge of electrochemical processes and physical material properties is an advantage.
Work Environment
You will join a large and friendly Mechanical Engineering department and work within the Energy Technology Research Group.
