Summary

Provides general care to patients in outpatient clinic setting by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Take temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal.
2. Document past medical history of patients.
3. Explain and perform prescribed procedures and treatments to patients in a timely manner.
4. Greet patients upon encounter, verify patient identity at each encounter, explain procedures to be performed, obtain verbal consent, and address patient questions and concerns.
5. Administer ordered injections in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
6. Observe patient and notify supervisor or provider of patient’s condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
7. Respond to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol.
8. Perform all drug screening and breath alcohol testing procedures in accordance with established rules and regulations.
9. Ensure patient immunizations are appropriate, well documented and administered using approved nursing techniques.
10. Conduct provider referrals as well as pre-certifications on an as-needed basis.
11. Properly start lab equipment daily; run and document controls; perform maintenance and cleaning of equipment as scheduled per written protocols.
12. Collect specimens from the patient utilizing the approved equipment, sequence and procedure.
13. Draw blood from patient’s finger, vein, or other approved sites while observing principles of asepsis to obtain blood samples.
14. Follow established procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient results.
15. Report results timely and notify providers of abnormalities.
16. Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or results and follow procedures for the reporting and correction of deviations.
17. Document corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
18. Adhere to laboratory quality control procedures and document all Quality Control activities, instrument and instrument maintenance.
19. Rotate among various clinical services such as lab, nursing, and x-ray.
20. Prepare rooms; sterilize instruments, equipment, and supplies for procedures.
21. Follow 10/15 policy routinely.
22. Ensure the work area is neat and clean, fully stocked and all laundry items have been laundered and put away.
23. Manage difficult and emotional patient situations.
24. Maintain complete and accurate documentation.
25. Observe safety and security procedures; promote a safe and pleasant work environment.
26. Report potentially unsafe conditions to management.
27. Respond to all patient messages; documenting conversations in electronic medical records system, assist with any patient discharging duties and share responsibility of patient call backs.
28. Regular attendance to ensure efficient clinic operations.
29. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education and Experience
1. Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
2. Six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
3. CMA certification preferred.
4. Phlebotomy certification preferred.
Physical Demands/Work Environment (optional)

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and frequently required to walk. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
