The Education Welfare Service plays a vital role in supporting schools across RBWM to improve and maintain high standards of attendance. We provide expert advice and guidance in line with the latest DfE attendance policies, working closely with both internal teams and external agencies to support young people and their families. Our aim is to ensure that every child has equal access to education by building strong, positive relationships with schools, pupils, and families to drive improved attendance outcomes.

About the role
As an Education Welfare Officer for Achieving for Children, you will be responsible for:
2. Supporting several allocated schools in RBWM to help improve and maintain high standards ofschool attendance and acting as their allocated education welfare officer
3. Responding sensitively and effectively to attendance queries in line with government guidance and supporting young people and families who may be experiencing severe family difficulties
4. Consulting, advising and formulating action plans with schools and families for pupilsexperiencing attendance issues
5. Direct work with pupils and families referred to the service and investigating pupil absence that is persistent
6. Preparing documentation, reports and professional judgement for multi-agency meetings, childin need and child protection meetings
7. Writing witness statements and attending court when required
8. Advising schools and actioning punitive measures for school attendance issues
9. Issuing fixed penalty notices for non-school attendance
10. Supporting children experiencing Emotional Related School Avoidance, identifying the riskfactors and creating a support plan in collaboration with all involved professionals
11. Analyse school attendance data via ONE system and school registers
12. Accurately record all meetings notes, visits and communication on the central database

About you
13. Educated to A Level or equivalent
14. Degree level in relevant qualification is desirable
15. Valid UK Driving License
16. An understanding of school settings and school expectations
17. Knowledge of child development and the influence of home and school environment on a child’sability to benefit from education
18. Experience of working in partnership with schools and other agencies to instigate and developdifferent strategies with vulnerable pupils
19. Experience of keeping and maintaining records (in accordance with local policy) and producingaccurate reports, presentations, written updates to a range of stakeholders which may includefamilies children and young people
20. Ability to demonstrate good interpersonal skills that gain the confidence and trust of vulnerablechildren with challenging behaviours
21. Experience of liaising effectively with school staff to share knowledge and ideas on how to initiatechanges in practice an approach
