Great ideas come from different minds. That’s why we bring together engineers, scientists, analysts, and creatives from every background — and give them the trust, tools, and freedom to make a difference. What connects us is the mission: solving meaningful problems and building capability that protects what matters most.
And as the challenges evolve, so do we — working on the technologies that will shape tomorrow, not just today.
The Opportunity
Roke is recruiting for an Agile Practitioner / Scrum Master who is experienced in supporting the delivery of software-based projects driven by solving varied and interesting client problems. The candidate will be responsible for supporting project leadership with the strategy, architecture and high-level design / delivery of software solutions across defence.
For this specific role, we are seeking someone with strong experience in Agile development and Scrum delivery of software-based projects adhering to Scrum principles and SAFe agile practices.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for supporting the development of customer offerings to address market drivers, identifying opportunities to develop/exploit our own IP in our target proposition space, as well as understanding and documenting the customer’s requirements for distribution to the engineering team.
Areas of Responsibility/Tasks:
Agile Delivery & Facilitation
* Facilitate Scrum ceremonies (Sprint Planning, Daily Stand‑ups, Sprint Reviews, Retrospectives and PI planning events).
* Ensure the team adheres to Scrum principles and SAFe agile practices.
* Support backlog refinement in collaboration with the Product Owner.
* Drive continuous improvement through effective retrospectives and actionable follow‑ups.
* Maintain transparency through appropriate reporting (burndown charts, velocity, risks, impediments).
* Proactively identify and remove blockers affecting team delivery.
* Escalate risks and issues appropriately while maintaining team autonomy.
* Coordinate dependencies across teams where required (e.g., Scrum of Scrums).
Team Development & Coaching
* Coach team members in Agile values, mindset, and practices.
* Foster a high‑performing, psychologically safe team environment.
* Identify team anti‑patterns and drive behavioural improvements.
* Support onboarding of new team members.
Why We Want You
Beyond your technical skills, you will be proactive and able to communicate effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders. You will work well alone or as part of a team. You will be curious and seek out the best approach/solution/tool for the job at hand.
Alongside your skills with SAFe Agile Software delivery, you have a broad technical background which allows you to rapidly understand new systems and domains, and prototype solutions based on your experience and hands on approach. As an Agile Practitioner, you will have a degree level qualification in a STEM subject, or you will have an education and level of experience which is comparable. You will have:
* Experience of Software development.
* Proven experience as a Scrum Master in an Agile environment.
* Strong understanding of Scrum framework and Agile principles.
* Experience facilitating Agile ceremonies.
* Experience managing delivery risks and dependencies.
* Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Experience working with tools such as Jira.
