Role: Project Manager (Pharma)
Role Type: Temporary – 6 Months.
Location: Remote Role, with site attendance required for critical meetings/workshops – in Cambridge.
Your New Company
The PSSS programme is a cross-functional initiative to transform patient safety data management and accelerate regulatory submissions across AstraZeneca. The project addresses inefficiencies in current processes, data access delays, and inconsistent data presentation, which currently extend submission timelines to 10–13 weeks (target: 6 weeks).
The programme is structured into three workstreams:
* NextGen Process Framework: Standardizes submission management, governance, and training.
* Data Infrastructure (“Data Pipe”): Builds a scalable, governed pipeline for patient safety data.
* Data Analytics & Visualization: Delivers interactive tools and dashboards for safety data review.
Key deliverables include a unified, GxP-validated data tool, harmonized risk/benefit frameworks, and improved collaboration between Patient Safety, Biometrics, Data Office, and IT. The programme will reduce manual data handling, optimize resources, and shorten submission timelines, delivering significant business and compliance benefits.
Your New Role
* Manage detailed project plans for day-to-day implementation activities and report on progress
* Run sessions ensuring all team members are bought into and familiar with project plans and priorities
* Conduct regular check-ins with team members to gather accurate progress updates and escalate blockers/issues to appropriate leads
* Document, report, and manage risks, issues, actions, design decisions, and dependencies
* Prioritise issue resolution and risk mitigations
* Create collateral for senior leadership sessions, including adoption and progress reporting
* Manage core meeting agendas and outputs (actions, risks, decisions)
* Own and manage the repository of content and document sharing
* Manage interdependencies with other workstreams/initiatives within AZ at the workstream level.
Essential Skills
* Previous Project Management experience within Life Sciences
* Understanding of drug development process advantageous
* Experience with Smartsheet’s, SharePoint, MS office suite, RAID logs, MS Teams
* Self-starter able to work in Programme team environment
* Experience with project management delivery standards and methodologies including realizing business benefits.
* Strong organization and forward-planning skills, with attention to detail
* Ability to follow project delivery processes
Desirable Skills
* Experience working in pharma / healthcare organisations
* Project Manager certifications
