Overview
As an integral member of the Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) healthcare team, the Registered Professional Nurse (RN) upholds the YNHHS mission, vision, values and strategic initiatives to provide the highest level of patient-centered care. The RN practices professional nursing within the legal and ethical framework established by the Connecticut Nurse Practice Act, American Nurses Association Scope and Standards for Nursing Practice, ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the YNHHS Professional Practice Model. The role of the RN includes leadership, delegation, collaboration, effective communication, and ensuring quality outcomes. YNHHS nurses operate within our professional practice model, "Achieving outcomes through Autonomy and Accountability," valuing Nursing Professional Governance and using evidence and data to support practice centered on the patient and family.
The RN provides care that:
* Establishes and maintains a therapeutic relationship with the patient and family, incorporating cultural diversity into practice
* Communicates and collaborates effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members
* Respects the patient's values, preferences, expressed needs, and healthcare knowledge in holistic data collection, outcome formulation, and evaluation.
Responsibilities
1. Standards of Practice: Guided by the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice (2015), encompassing assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care.
2. Standards of Professional Performance: Including ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice, quality of practice, professional evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health. The RN is accountable for their professional actions and engages in activities appropriate to their role.
Qualifications
Education: Graduation from an accredited nursing school; BSN preferred. Current BCLS certification required within one month of hire.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years Intensive Care Experience required. All RNs are encouraged to advance through the SPIRE clinical program.
Licensure: Licensed and registered in Connecticut. Specialty certification encouraged.
Physical Demands
Prolonged standing, walking, use of senses, exposure to infectious diseases, physical and emotional stress, and the ability to assist with patient handling up to 300 pounds.
