Overview
This is a Consultant in Renal and Acute Medicine post based across two dynamic trusts. The position offers a 10 PA allocation (10.5 PA post with an additional 0.5 PA negotiable following appointment) and supports the award‑winning, research‑driven, education‑oriented team.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide advice and day‑to‑day management of medical in‑patients with renal disease at Whiston & St Helens Hospitals sites (MWL), linking with Royal Liverpool University Hospitals (ULG) tertiary unit when indicated.
* Provide outpatient services in renal medicine, including the Royal Liverpool University Hospitals General Nephrology/Low Clearance clinic, Transplant clinic and MWL Post AKI/Renal Hot clinics.
* Assist Acute Medical Consultants in providing comprehensive and timely assessment of patients presenting to the Acute Medical Unit (AMU), including Same‑Day Emergency and Enhanced Care at Whiston Hospital.
* Participate in teaching and training of junior staff, medical students, Advanced Nurse / Clinical Practitioners and Pharmacy staff based on the Renal team as well as the AMU.
* Contribute to departmental and trust clinical governance and audit.
* Fulfil obligations relating to continuing medical education, professional development, appraisal and revalidation.
Working Hours & Flexible Working
3 PA of the post is allocated to Royal Liverpool University Hospital activities, 1.5 PA (2 PA negotiable on appointment) to the Acute Medical Unit at Whiston Hospital and 5.5 PA to Renal Medicine at MWL. The post holder will also contribute to the out‑of‑hours General Internal Medicine Physician of the Day rota with a 3 % on‑call supplement. Flexible working (LTFT/flexible patterns) is welcome.

Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must:
* Hold Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (UK or equivalent qualifications) and be fully registered with the General Medical Council.
* Have entry on the GMC Specialist Register for both Nephrology and General Internal Medicine via one of the following:
* Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Nephrology and General Internal Medicine (or within 6 months of being awarded CCT on interview date, including via Portfolio Pathway).
* European Community Rights.
* Evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT for non‑EU trained applicants.
