Electronic Instrumentation Engineer Location: Oxford, UK We are supporting a pioneering technology and research organisation developing next generation diagnostic platforms designed to transform pathogen detection and response. Their work brings together scientists, engineers, and technologists to translate advanced research into practical solutions that improve global health outcomes. As part of a multidisciplinary engineering and science team, they are seeking an Electronic Instrumentation Engineer to support the development of innovative laboratory instrumentation used in advanced sequencing technologies and diagnostic devices. This role will focus on designing and integrating electronic control systems for prototype instrumentation used in fluid handling, sensing, automation, and data acquisition. You will collaborate closely with experts across microfluidics, biology, and software engineering to build systems that enable high precision experimentation and diagnostics. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of cutting-edge healthcare technologies with real world impact. Key Responsibilities • Design and engineer electrical systems for laboratory instrumentation and automated devices, including extra-low voltage systems and benchtop equipment • Develop power electronics and control architectures integrating sensors, actuators, pumps, valves and instrumentation hardware • Specify and select electronic components such as power supplies, connectors, sensors, control hardware and safety systems • Translate experimental and biological requirements into practical engineering solutions • Create detailed design documentation including schematics, wiring diagrams and control system layouts using ECAD tools • Support development and testing of automated laboratory workflows and prototype instrumentation • Communicate design progress, testing results and technical updates to project stakeholders • Ensure systems comply with relevant safety standards, quality requirements and engineering best practices Requirements Essential • Degree or equivalent experience in Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline • Experience designing and implementing electrical systems for instrumentation, automation, or laboratory equipment • Strong understanding of extra-low voltage electrical systems including protection, grounding and control integration • Experience with PCB design, embedded systems and firmware development • Familiarity with microcontrollers, sensors, actuators and mixed signal systems • Experience producing schematics and electrical documentation using ECAD tools • Ability to communicate effectively within multidisciplinary teams Desirable • Experience building or commissioning prototype systems • Experience managing external suppliers or contractors for engineering builds • Experience working with laboratory automation or medical device systems • Knowledge of fluidic or thermal systems including pumps, valves, motors and sensors • Experience supporting engineering risk assessments or compliance testing • Experience using collaboration tools such as Jira or Confluence
