This role is a leadership position within the Argos Commercial team, responsible for translating category strategies into profitable growth, overseeing range building, trading strategies, and product propositions across channels. You will work closely with product development, global sourcing, and suppliers to optimize costs and profits. Managing, motivating, and developing the buying team, you’ll collaborate with merchandising to meet strategic goals.
As a Senior Buyer at Argos, you’ll shape and implement strategic visions for product ranges, focusing on high-quality own-brand products, supplier relationships, promotional activities, financial performance, and team leadership. Your responsibilities include working with various teams on product launches, pricing, trading plans, negotiations, stock management, and channel oversight.
Key requirements include:
1. Strong commercial awareness and buying experience, ideally in a non-food omni-channel environment.
2. Familiarity with systems and processes in multi-channel retail, balancing short-term and long-term objectives.
3. Proven commercial success and understanding of legal and compliance issues.
4. Ability to analyze complex data and make strategic decisions.
5. Track record of achieving targets individually and as part of a team.
6. Financial acumen to influence business performance.
7. Resilience under pressure in a fast-paced retail setting.
8. Market trend awareness and influencing skills.
9. Effective communication, presentation, and leadership capabilities.
