Our client, a fast-growing medical technology innovator, is seeking a Global Head of Engineering to lead their UK and US engineering teams. With a strong reputation in the development of patient-specific surgical devices—including anatomical models, surgical cutting guides, and implants—our client partners with top-tier hospitals and healthcare organisations across the UK and the US.
In this role, you’ll lead multidisciplinary engineering teams, drive operational excellence, and champion quality standards in medical device design and manufacturing. You will report directly to the Chief Operations Officer and play a vital role in building the future engineering function of a company at the forefront of personalised surgery.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and manage UK & US engineering teams (staff welfare, performance, and development)
* Oversee department structure, performance metrics, and resource planning
* Drive QMS compliance (ISO 13485) across engineering workflows
* Oversee project scheduling and delivery through internal platforms (e.g., EmbedMed)
* Lead recruitment, technical onboarding, and mentoring of engineers
* Provide hands-on technical input for complex design cases
* Liaise with sales and senior management to align engineering strategies with growth
Requirements:
* Degree in Engineering (biomedical specialisation preferred)
* Minimum 5 years of experience leading engineering teams in a commercial setting
* In-depth knowledge of orthopaedics and/or patient-specific medical device design
* Strong understanding of medical regulations, QMS, and product development cycles
