There is a vacancy for a full timeConsultant working into the Psychosis Team covering the area of South Durham(population 125,000 min 2008), part of the South Durham Locality. This is areplacement post. In total there are 13 Adult Mental Health Consultant postsacross the locality, which are supported by medical staff from the rotationscheme in psychiatry, GP Registrars, F2 Doctors and Speciality Doctors.
Main duties of the job
The Consultant will be expected toprovide committed, proactive and responsive clinical leadership working withother staff to provide an assessment and treatment service for thoseindividuals suffering from psychosis in the South Durham well as providing review clinics at the Goodall Centre, BarnardCastle and Enterprise House, Spennymoor, the Consultant will also undertakejoint reviews with other team members for complex, unstable and high riskindividuals. There are robust joint-working arrangements across both Affectiveand Psychosis teams based at Goodall Centre and this is aimed to supportcomplexities that may arise in patient care but also patients in whom there islack of clarity around which of the two teams they may fit tants will be fullyinvolved with the CPA process.
As the RC for patients in the team, thepost-holder will be overseeing Clozapine reviews within the team but the AdvancedNurse practitioner who is experienced in managing patients on Clozapine willtake an active role in ensuring all monitoring are in place and only concernsescalated where this is a need to the support from the juniordoctors, ANC and ANP it is only the most complex cases that are then referredfor review by the consultant psychiatrist or where there may be a legalobligation due to CTOs etc.
