The Role
An opportunity has arisen within the Corporate Support Services Directorate to be part of NHS Lanarkshire's Health and Safety Team, working as a Health and Safety Advisor. The post holder will be supported by and report to the Head of Health and Safety. The post is based at 14 Beckford Street with travel throughout Lanarkshire. The successful applicant will provide professional, organisationally and Healthcare focused Health and Safety advice, guidance and support and assist with the planning and delivery of safe and effective health and social care services. There is the opportunity within the role to work as part of a wider team in addition to working autonomously on your own initiative. The successful candidate will be a team player with excellent (verbal and written) communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence and motivate. You will also have good working knowledge of IT including word processing, spread sheets, databases, presentation software and web based systems and applications. Car owner/driver is essential.

What we'll need you to bring
The post holder will be a Chartered member of IOSH (CMIOSH) or working towards CMIOSH status or have the appropriate qualifications and experience to achieve CMIOSH within the 1st year of commencement of the post. Membership will require to be retained throughout employment with NHS Lanarkshire.
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrable relevant experience in a health and safety multi-disciplinary role.
You will have a recognised and approved safety related qualification such as Qualified to National Examination Board of Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) diploma or the equivalent of a suitable Professional Qualification in Occupational Safety and Health e.g. Degree/PgC/PgD/BSc in Health and Safety or Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) at Level 10 or NQF/QCF Level 6 you should also have knowledge of health and safety policies and procedures and experience in undertaking risk assessment and audits.
Please note for all vacancies where a driving licence is required this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.
It would be great if you also have
NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent)
MIOSH, Registered Safety Practitioner
Post qualification experience in health and safety role.
Previous experience working for multidisciplinary organisation
Experience of influencing managers within the NHS or other large multidisciplinary organisation
Experience in carrying out risk assessments and workplace inspections.
Experience in the development and delivery of Health and Safety Training courses
Previous supervisory experience
In depth knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation.
Competence with computer systems (word, excel, PowerPoint and databases)
Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
Excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to chair meetings
Ability to work on own initiative or part of a wider team
