Offer description

Behavioural Specialist, Workshop Lead-

Location- Cardiff

Salary- £89.38/ day

Contract type- Full time

About the Role-

As a key member of our specialist behavioural team, you will support children and young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH) who require a highly individualised, alternative approach to education. Many learners have faced significant challenges in mainstream settings and benefit from consistent, relational, and therapeutic support to help them re-engage positively with learning.

You will work closely with behaviour practitioners and teaching staff to create a calm, structured, and supportive environment where pupils feel safe, understood, and able to succeed. Support will include working with small groups of 4–6 learners, as well as providing 1:1 guidance for pupils with more complex or high‑level behavioural needs.

We are particularly looking for candidates with strong practical skills, such as basic plumbing, electronics, carpentry, DIY, or workshop experience. Hands‑on, vocational activities play a key role in helping learners build confidence, develop resilience, and engage in purposeful, skill‑based learning.

Daily responsibilities may include-

* Supporting pupils to regulate their emotions using trauma‑informed, relational, and restorative approaches.
* Assisting learners to rebuild positive routines and develop communication, problem‑solving, and resilience skills.
* Implementing behaviour support plans and contributing to de‑escalation in challenging situations.
* Delivering or assisting with practical, project‑based activities such as simple repairs, basic tool use, creative tasks, or workplace‑style learning to build motivation and engagement.
* Encouraging personal growth through activities that develop confidence, self‑esteem, teamwork, and independence.

Every day within an alternative provision setting is different. Your support will be vital in helping learners rebuild trust, form positive relationships, and work toward successful reintegration or progression into vocational and academic pathways.

About the School-

Our School offers a specialist, highly supportive environment for pupils aged primary through to 16 who require an alternative to mainstream education. Learners follow personalised programmes that prioritise emotional wellbeing, personal development, life skills, and re-engagement with learning.

The provision places strong emphasis on:

* Positive relationships
* Consistency and routine
* A therapeutic, trauma‑informed approach
* Practical, hands‑on learning opportunities

Staff work collaboratively to help young people become resilient, responsible, and confident individuals who can make positive choices and build a future that reflects their strengths.

What We Need from You-

* Previous experience in a PRU/SEN School setting is required.
* Practical skills such as plumbing, basic electrics, DIY, maintenance, or workshop experience.
* A positive, patient, and non‑judgmental attitude, with genuine passion for helping young people who face barriers.
* The ability to stay calm and adaptable in fast‑paced or emotionally demanding situations.
* Child and Adult Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (support available if needed).
* Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC).
* Two references available on request.
* Full UK driving licence and access to personal transport.
