Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Registered Nurses to join our Acute Medical Unit at North Bristol NHS Trust.

Main duties and responsibilities

* Organise and participate in the delivery of high standards of evidence-based nursing care.
* Deliver direct patient care to a high standard without direct supervision, in accordance with established nursing procedures and policies.
* Contribute to health promotion through education, support and advice, with appropriate referrals as required.
* In the absence of senior staff, delegate and supervise appropriate work to qualified staff, healthcare support workers and students.
* Assist in coordinating discharge planning in partnership with the multidisciplinary team where relevant.
* Treat all patients with courtesy, respect individual needs and maintain confidentiality at all times.
* Provide a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, relatives, visitors and colleagues.

* Organise and participate in delivering high standards of evidence-based nursing care.
* Report significant changes in a patient’s condition to the multidisciplinary team.
* Take responsibility for ward leadership in the absence of senior staff.
* Lead a team in delivering patient care within a defined area.
* Ensure safe ordering, administration and custody of patients’ medications.
* Coordinate discharge planning in partnership with the team where relevant.
* Maintain professionalism, courtesy and confidentiality at all times.
* Ensure readiness of equipment and supplies; manage stock and assist with ward administration as agreed.
* Adhere to manual handling regulations and ensure safety of patients during transfers and handling.
* Report any complaints, incidents or accidents and complete relevant documentation.


Person specification

Education/Training/Qualifications

* Essential: Registered Nurse with current live NMC registration; evidence of continuing professional development.
* Desirable: Teaching and assessing qualification (or willingness to undertake after 2 years post-registration).

Work Experience

* Essential: Completion of training for extended ward/dept roles (e.g., IV administration, cannulation, venepuncture, ECGs, catheterisation, PCA, epidural training).
* Essential: Currently working in a hospital setting as a qualified nurse or qualifying student.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

* Advanced communication skills (verbal and written) including report writing and record keeping.
* Ability to work as part of a team and organise own workload.
* Basic IT skills (e.g., email, electronic systems) with a willingness to develop further.
* Time management and problem-solving abilities.
