Associate Clinical Directors - 2 posts

The closing date is 30 June 2025

Two posts are advertised for the role of AssociateClinical Director of Research and Development (ACD R&D), contributing tothe next phase of development of R&D in the Trust.

The ACDs will be directly accountable to the ClinicalDirector of R&D and will work closely with the Head of Research and R&Dmanager. Both posts will be expected to deputise where appropriate for the ClinicalDirector on matters relating to research and innovation.

Post 1: Will focus on the safe and effectivedelivery of high quality research involving service users and carers asparticipants, providing leadership and support for a group of research leadsacross the specialties

Post 2: Will focus on the growth of commercialresearch and Clinical Trials of Investigational Medicinal Products in theTrust, and will input to the job planning and appraisal of clinical academics.

Both posts will support the CD for R&D insupporting the development and delivery of the innovations department in theTrust.


Main duties of the job

Towork closely with the Trusts R&D Manager on the delivery of NIHR Portfoliostudies, including identifying and supporting Principal Investigators.

Toprovide leadership and support for the Trusts Research Leads for specialtiesand commercial studies

To support the Clinical Director ofR&D and the Head of Research in the development and delivery of the TrustsResearch and Development Strategy.

Person Specification


Experience

* Experience of leadership in a clinical or research setting in the NHS or Higher Education sector
* Principal Investigator status on an NIHR portfolio study in the NHS
* Previous experience of research leadership
* Experience of job planning and or appraisal with clinical academics
* Experience of managing a budget
* Principal Investigator experience in a clinical trial or equivalent substantial research study
* Experience of implementing the results of research in the NHS


Special Requirements

* Self-motivated
* Ability to motivate and lead change
* Ability to work to deadlines


Qualifications

* UK registered clinical health professional working currently or in the past at consultant level
* Masters level training in research
* Higher research degree


Skills and Knowledge

* Demonstrate sound understanding and knowledge of the requirements of staff in the conduct and support of clinical research.
* Demonstrate sound knowledge of the regulatory context of research in the NHS, including Care Quality Commission requirements
* demonstrate sound understanding of the principles and application of the Attribution of Costs of Health and Social Care Research and Development - AcoRD
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Ability to delegate appropriately
* Ability to lead as part of a leadership team
* Ability to work collaboratively with service users and carers
* Evidence of continuing professional development as a leader
* Demonstrable skills in the use of quality improvement approaches
* Awareness of principles of developing innovations in the NHS
