Machine Shop Supervisor (Lathe Area) – Newmarket, Suffolk
We are recruiting for a Production Supervisor for the machine shop at a world‑leading engineering firm. Based in Newmarket, this role will see you take ownership of all technical aspects within the Lathe Area, supporting a 24/7 environment consisting of multi‑spindle lathes, cold‑heading equipment, and associated machinery.
Responsibilities
* Oversee all technical aspects of the Lathe Area, including machines and ancillary equipment
* Diagnose and resolve machining and production issues alongside the team
* Support and work closely with the other supervisors to drive output and performance
* Provide technical training and support to operators within the department
* Liaise with production control and other departments to meet business requirements
* Support service engineers during maintenance and equipment servicing
* Identify and implement process improvements and cost‑saving initiatives
* Assist production when required to maintain output levels
* Ensure smooth operation across a 24/7 manufacturing environment
Qualifications
* Proven experience working with multi‑spindle lathe machines and associated equipment
* 5–10 years experience within a high‑volume manufacturing environment
* Strong mechanical aptitude with excellent problem‑solving skills
* Experience working in a shift‑based or 24/7 manufacturing environment
* Confident supporting and developing team members
* Highly organised with a proactive, "can-do" attitude
* Flexible approach to working hours, including supporting different shifts when required
* Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 quality standards
* Previous experience in a supervisory or senior technical role
* Background in high‑output precision engineering environments
